Shellfish in Rhode Island

Estuaries have seen declines in historically abundant shellfish populations, requiring restoration and enhancement initiatives to rebuild populations and enhance or recover ecosystem services.

Our goal is to provide a cohesive, overarching plan for shellfish restoration and enhancement activities that reflects the needs of both stakeholders and managers.

Humans and nature are connected through complex relationships.

Shellfish habitat provide ecological functions and ecosystem services that support the social and economic well-being of local communities.
